How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
There are a few different ways that teeth whitening can work. One common method is using a bleaching agent to remove stains and discoloration from the teeth. This bleaching agent can be in the form of a gel, paste, or strip that is applied to the teeth. Another common method is using a laser to remove stains and discoloration from the teeth.
At our dental clinic in Magherafelt, We will carry out a tooth whitening procedure using either 6% hydrogen peroxide or 10% / 16% carbamide peroxide to brighten the colour of the natural teeth.
What’s the procedure?
During your first appointment, we will examine your teeth and gums to ensure that they are free of any disease or decay. We will also discuss your goals and desires for whitening your teeth.
The procedure is then initiated by getting a mouth guard made for the shape of your mouth.
Once ready, after your teeth and gums have been examined, our dentists will prepare your mouth for the whitening procedure. This usually involves placing a rubber dam (a small sheet of latex) over your teeth to protect your gums and oral tissues from the whitening gel. The rubber dam also helps to keep the gel on your teeth, where it can have maximum effect.
The treatment takes approximately 3 weeks. You may see improvements within the first few days but it can take up to 3 weeks for the best results.
